Information Sheet - Goins Kingsnake

Introduction:

The Goins Kingsnake is a red snake found in England. It belongs to the species Lampropelitis Getula thus its scientific name is Lampropelitis getula goini. When they have shed the first skin, the red color shows well under bright light and they are a favorite of many who prefer to keep snakes for pets.

General:

They have black and brown specks and they can grow up to three feet long. They have black eyes. The bigger the snake the more space it requires for comfort. It can grow up to four feet long and half an inch wide.

Geographic Range:

It is usually found around Middlesex in England. They survive in hot areas but look for shelter and shade if the heat is too much. Since their eggs require high temperature to hatch, they move to warmer areas before laying eggs. They are also found on rocks and some on hilly places.goins kingsnake large

Behavior:

They respond aggressively when an adversary is a nuisance but are rather friendly and can relax on someone’s palm. They like coiling around branches for added comfort. However, they do not climb too high on trees.

Habitat:

They are found in arid areas where there is no much disturbance. This is convenient for them because they easily glide on sand. They can also live in holes especially when it is very hot.

Reproduction:

The eggs hatch at a temperature of 68 – 75 degrees Fahrenheit. This temperature should be maintained in case the reptile has been caged. One can use fine wood shavings for the eggs bedding though the Goins Kingsnake can move the eggs to another hidden part.

Captivity:

They are not resistant to captivity. They fair relatively well and feed well. Since they are colorful and small, they make very good pets. Their size also allows them to stay in small glass cages in any part of a house.
